A diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy centre, first of its kind in Nigeria, has been inaugurated in Lagos by a group of United Kingdom based Nigerian medical experts.
The group, led by a laparoscopic and colorectal surgeon, Dr Ayo Oshowo, said the centre was set up to handle malignant cancer and other related cancer cases. Oshowo said it would help to save patients from mass killer diseases.
Oshowo said, ?Advances in fibre optic endoscopy have resulted in the early detection and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, including cancer.
?Even though an endoscopic unit, which should be a permanent fixture in every modern hospital, is common in developed countries, it is frighteningly not available in Africa.
?That is why we took it upon ourselves to run a campaign of awareness so that more of these diagnostic centres would be set up around the country.?
