AC/DC last embarked on a world tour in 2000, coinciding with the release of their last album Stiff Upper Lip.
The band's next release will be their first collection of new material since then and is produced by Brendan O'Brien and long-running engineer Mike Fraser.
Since forming in 1973 the group have sold more than 150 million albums.
Their first record High Voltage was released in 1975 but their best-seller came four years later with Back in Black.
Other albums include Let There Be Rock, Blow Up Your Video and Fly on the Wall.
The band recently signed a deal to make their songs available on computer game Rock Band 2.
