Apart from the local training embarked upon by Team Nigeria in readiness for the 2018 Commonwealth games, the team will also go on foreign training tour.
Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Tunde Popoola who made this known, said efforts are being made to ensure that Nigeria perform very well.
?We had a programme put together by the NOC and the Sports Ministry to ensure that we have a good preparation for the Commonwealth Games.
For now, training camp are taking place in Port Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja with athletes shaping up for the championship but I must also let you know that the team will embark on one-month foreign training tour to ensure that our athletes get the needed build up to the games.
For now, all the funds needed to prosecute this preparation are already with the Ministry of Sports and they are in charge of the training for the athletes. We are hoping that before the games, we can have all the athletes going outside for their final training few weeks before the games in Australia,? the NOC scribe said.
Analysts have however expressed concern over the handling of Nigeria?s preparation for the games as nothing seems to show that Nigeria is ready to do well in Australia.
They argued that the handling of the camping by the Ministry of Sports has not been impressive as most of the athletes in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja camps are not exposed to world class competitions to test their might against top athletes in the world.
