Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has emphasised that Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima is still in charge of sporting activities in the state.
There were rumours that the governor might relieve Galadima of his duties as the Chairman of Kano State Sports Commission, after the former Nigeria Football Federation president was recently appointed as the new Chairman of the National Institute for Sports by President Muhammadu Buhari.
But Ganduje on Tuesday clarified that the state government had no intention of sending Galadima packing from the sports commission.
The state Commissioner for Information, Youths and Culture, Mohammed Garba, said the appointment of the former Kano Pillars chairman would not in any way clash with his functions as chairman of the sports commission.
According to Garba, Galadima will be able to combine his new role as the NIS board leader and his position as sports commission boss.
Meanwhile, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Kano State chapter, has commended the appointment of Galadima, as the new NIS boss.
In a statement by Kano SWAN chairman Rilwan Garu, the sports writers said the appointment of Galadima was worthy of commendation, taking into account his experience in sports administration.
