The Niger State Police Command says in the last one month, it has arrested 22 kidnappers in the Mashegu Local Government Area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, on Sunday said kidnapping had been on the increase in the area.
He added that the anti-kidnapping team of the command confronted some of the kidnappers in their den during which the arrests were made.
He said, ?It is on record that Niger State was in the past faced with four major security challenges, which include cattle rustling, kidnapping, highway robbery and youths restiveness.
?However, the state police command has put in place measures which have made these reduce drastically.
?Just two days ago, we arrested seven kidnappers and recovered one AK-47 rifle with seven rounds of ammunition and one light assault rifle with 11 rounds of live ammunition.
?We are not relenting in the fight against crime in Niger State.
?The Niger State police authorities have devised a more robust crime fighting strategy to sustain the successes already recorded by the command.?
On the issue of highway robbery in the state, the PPRO said security had been beefed up around the Minna-Suleja Road and other areas, where robbers terrorised residents in the state.
?We have also flooded all the roads with patrol teams, strategically placed, and that alone will deter highway robbers and other criminal elements,? he added.
