The President of the St. Gregory?s College Old Students Association, Mr. Chartlers Sanckey, has said private sector must compliment government?s efforts if the task of providing qualitative education for Nigerian youths must be achieved.
This, he said, would also help to achieve the desired standard in education.
Speaking at the inauguration of some projects carried out by the school?s alumni at its Obalende premises, Sanckey said the old students raised money to execute about 11 projects which included a learning resource centre, computer laboratory, language laboratory, domestic quarters for teaching and non-teaching staff and a restroom for members of staff.
?Government cannot do everything. You have to make private efforts to develop your institutions. Government can?t provide everything and that we know.?
He emphasised that the computer laboratory which cost more than N9m to rehabilitate and equip would not have been possible if the school had relied on government.
?It has been upgraded by private funds and I am quite happy about that. If you depend on government you won?t get anything done,? said Sanckey.
The second Vice-President of St. Gregory?s College Old Students Association, Dr. John Abebe, said the successful completion and inauguration of the projects was a challenge to old students of other schools to rally round their alma mater in the time of need.
