The Nigerian Association of Educationists for National Development, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States Zonal Chapter, has canvassed an automatic salary increment for teachers every three year.
This proposal, NAEND noted, would not only motivate teachers to better service delivery, it would also promote industrial harmony.
This was contained in a communiqu? signed by it National President, Dr. Oyetunde Awoyele after the 9th annual conference held at the National Institute for Educational Planning And Administration, Ondo on Thursday. A copy of the communiqu? was obtained by our correspondent on Friday.
According to the association, the neglect of all levels of the educational system in country is detrimental to national productivity and quality of products of the system.
NAEND, therefore, called on the Federal and state governments to urgently rise up to their responsibilities through the provision and maintenance of adequate physical, infrastructural and human resources at all levels of the education sector.
This, the association, would enhance national productivity and the realisation of the Education For All goals of the Federal Government.
The association added that education should be made more dynamic, so that it could respond to the aspirations and needs of the citizenry.
NAEND also called on the three tiers of government to encourage creativity by teachers in all segments of national life. It, however, added that emphasis should be placed on application of knowledge in teaching and learning instead of role learning and regurgitation of facts.
