The Federal Government has approved the sum of N215million for the award of contract for the completion of the Senate Building of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
The project, which is at the Gidan Kwano Permanent site of the university, our correspondent gathered, had been abandoned since 1993.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Muhammed Audu, who disclosed that the Federal Government at its Federal Executive Council meeting of recent approved the award of the contract, described the completion of the project as one of the major priorities of the university for now.
Speaking during the presentation of the contract award letter to a construction firm handling the project at the Senate chambers in Gidan Kwano on Thursday, the university Vice Chancellor warned the contractor against compromising standard in the execution of the contract.
According to him, “This is a project that is of utmost importance to the university, we therefore urge you to put in quality job as the building must be an edifice that the university must be proud of.”
He expressed the commitment of the university to give necessary support to the contractor towards facilitating the successful execution of the contract.
The contract award which is provisional, it was learnt has a completion period of eight months.
The Director of the construction firm handling the project, Mr. Oladele Taiwo, in his response promised that the company would ensure that the contract was executed according to specification.
He commended the university authority for the confidence reposed in the firm and assured that the eight months completion period would be adhered to.
