Other reasons that made for the cancellation of the technology transfer deals includeed high costs and obsolescence.

Those involved in the aborted deals included both public and private sector organisations involved in agriculture, healthcare, info tech and other related sectors of the economy.

Although the period covered in the tech transfer agreements was 1983-2007, the greatest amount was in 2007 when #33.84bn was stopped from being invested in phony technologies.

Similarly, #32.86bn was saved from the intervention perion in 2006, while #26.77bn was saved in 2005.

Although NOTAP is mandated to evaluate the tech transfer content in foreign transaction dealings with foreign organisations, our correspondent gathered that all such dealings by both public and private sector organisations are not reported to the agency as many evade its scrutiny.

On local technology inventions, Okongwu decried that many innovations by Nigerian scientists and technologists were rusting because the inventors were not knowledgeable on the process of commer...ing their inventions.

According to him, the rate of patenting which he put to one millions Nigerians and one to one thousand researchers was very low.

There is nothing wrong about cheap products as long as the do the job. But, there is a lot wrong with phony projects that never see the light of the day.
