For someone who started reading quran at age 4 and started teaching it in primary school, it is nothing strange to devote time to other books. You reason with your eyes blindfolded. You assume that my avoiding issues that interest you mean admision of error. I am not confused about my religion like some of you and my quran actually encourage me to study other religions. So, whatever interpretation you gave doesn't matter.
6. It is clear that the discussion is turning into personal attack. The forum pride itself as being free, but it was freedom on paper. Many members that hitherto love this forum are staying away and focusing on nairaland and other active fora. They have their reasons. While I recognizes that people can choose where they post, I am worried and sadden by the cavalier manner we run down our friends and call their bluff just because they don't share our idea.
7. I take exception to beibee's last two posts. I strongly believe they were laced with hidden motive to hurt. He had done it before, and is doing it again. I am in no mood to reply words for words. I am also not good at copying and pasting quotes. Therefore, I will not clarify anything.

I want to thank you guys for doing wonderful job on the forum. Truly, I have been busy lately. But then, I am not posting a word on religion section ever again. The forum had grown to 30,000, and I expect members to follow up and build it. I am sure it is a matter of time before we attract more religious people. I believe we have capable hands already.

Meanwhile, I tender my unresearve apology to whom ever feel bad about my post, my actions, words. I know that someday, we would be glad we meet.

Men are like rivers. We meet to part, and we part to meet. It is the way we part that matter so that when we meet, we would have a pleasant re-union.

I want to say goodbye to you guys. Anyone intending to communicate with me can use my email on my profile. I will NBF, but... No post.
God bless you all.

Hmmm!

I am sorry guys, I am wrong! Please keep it flowing. I am sorry, I couldn't contribute anymore.

However, for avoidance of doubt, I will clarify some issues:

1. I am not a forum preacher. I have been a public preacher, a cleric and a comparative religion analyst. I avoids public preaching in the past years for reasons best known to me.
2. Having been on nairaland for close to 2 years, I held tenaciously to my resolve to keep my personal beliefs to myself. I posted on religion section twice in those years. Though one or two threads from other sections were moved to the religion. The first and only time I started a thread/post on religion section was this year, when I had to douse a raging religion tension arising from Seun's calling Islam, "Great Religion". When you type Islam, the browser authomatically output "Great religion". He said, he did so because he respected Islam. But there were pocket of protests and various accusation of bias. I went in and articulated my position. I ended up advising him to remove the auto-correct. To my surprise, he heeded my call and reverted to status quo. That is seun for you.
3. My posting on NBF religion section was not because I am a religiou bigot or fanatics. I took personal risks in so doing. It was my attempt to help build the forum and make the religion segment active at a time when members are more focus on discussing sex, sex and sex! I felt it wasn't right for the forum to be known for sex. Indeed, many members that were initially impressed by the forum eventually left. One guy had to publicly voice his displeasure. In short, it is not my desire to discuss my personal belief, and I had done everything to stick to my principle. It is that refusal to compromise that made me ignore certain comments on religion. I think that was what you guys are exploiting to make me look foolish.
5. When I said I read bible more than quran. It doesn't mean I know it more than everyone. For someone who started reading quran at

@beibee,
since you are good with English, tell me where I am expressing my own reasoning. I am asking questions and probing deeper and deeper. The time for me to express my thought isn't right. Ok?

So far, I have detested the acronymn of Mr Know all. The basic of my anger on the thread. It is entirely your own thought. I am no bothered anymore. I have discovered something more to that words from Buda. And your support of it. It is to me a sign of ignorance.

To the second quote, he had not answered my questions. I am not interested in myth about Bashorun, Iyaloja. I am asking who created them.

Yes, he was dancing round the topic. It is evidence from his replies. I repeat, I am not interested in tale by moonlit. It seem people enjoy "mesmer" kind of drama that they don't realize when they are being mislead.

Look, if those were all he think, let him say so. Let him tell us in few words. Today, he talk about Obatala, tomorow Jesus etc. These are not my concern. Just tell us where you belongs. Even atheists belong somewhere.

"believer of all beliefs?". That would be the greatest fallacy of all times. The man said he "believes" in "nothing". He is to me treating issues as just academic. That explain my approach to him.  As for comparing me with you, then you are misinformed. Allah know I read and study bible more than quran in recent times. I was introduced to "traditional" way from early age. So I don't belong to the class you painted. People who believe only what they have been told to be right. That maybe for christains. Muslims don't limit their knowledge base. That is why the know about christainity and anything they can learn.

Intolerance? Did you meant you or Buda had been intorance? OMG! Sorry to hear that! By the way what does tolerance mean to you? Maybe it is just one of your sarcasms.

"mine is based on some sort of foundation"... Which foundation, Buda? Make yourself clear.

"that relies on my doing some work to ascertain what I see and take or accept to be so"... What works? Be specific. I hope it doesn't include your asking God to pull your hand out of your mouth to prove He is there? What are the scope of your study?

Being liberal doesn't mean disbelieving. Sorry, it has no relevance to the subject.

The reason why God has not shown you the way is that you are not interested in the way. You are interested in "your way". He created you and know the content of your heart. He know when you need help even before you ask. He know when you don't need help even though you may speak in the mic so he can hear. Quran said in "he is aware of your intents whether your reveal it or not for he is the knower of all that are conceived in human heart"

Jesus was talking to people like you. When the asked him to turn stone to bread. He told them not to tempt God. Not that he can not do it, but he knew that even if he do it, the "adulterous generation" would still want more. And above all, they won't believe.

When satan asked Jesus to bow for him on mountain cliff, did jesus asked God to come and take satan away? Or to make him unwilling to bend? He made his decision based on conviction.

When daniel was thrown in Lions Den, he didn't asked God to come and take him away or kil the lions.

When peter out of doubt asked Jesus to show him he was real by making him walk on the river. What happened? He walked, when his faith was functioning but he sank the moment he entertained doubt and fear. He didn't ask why God didn't prevent him from sinking.

Buda, you are not seeing the light because you have conditioned your heart to see the dark!

God would help you when you help yourself. You can be in the light and still be seeing darkness as long as your eyes and heart are shut. You are first obstacle to your own path of understanding.

"the devil is rather very wily and may have played tricks on us on the way between heaven and earth" buda.

I understand that you didn't "believe" in God. And that you didn't "believe" in Satan. If you are true to your conviction, then the above statement should not have come from you. I don't expect anybody in your frame of mind to "subscrib" to the fact that the "devil is rather wily and might have "played tricks" on your forefathers! Please, I refuse to accept that explanation from you unless you "acknowledge the existence of the devil". If not then your argument and everything it aimed butress are false, and an attempt to "win" in the face of confusions that are raging in your own mind.

Buda NEVER believe in Satan, and he always tell us that satan is a figment of our imagination. You said alot of it in your posting on satan. Thus, I strongly refuse to admit that post and everything it try to prove unless you clarify the above statement!

"God created the first man and woman"... Buda.

Which God? Which creator?

Forget the name. Ayo, Joy, and Nimot almost mean the same. But no one had ever denied the existence of "joy" just because it is from different language. No one have ever fail to recognize "joy" regardless of how it is acquired.

Therefore the creator of the universe, whatever way we see him, or whichever names we call him remains the creator!

Adam, Kukuyi, Oduduwa, are humans. They must have origin. They must have creator. Who is he? The scientists had shown that our universe is not an acident. Neither can man be from nowhere. I know what atheists thought, so don't bother to lecture me. Just tell me what BUDA THINKS.

Trying to convert you to reason as I do? How, buda? You enjoy dancing round simple explanation and evade the question in strategic manner. How would you know how I reason when all this while, I have only been asking you questions? I am only trying to analyse you and I am making progress. So far, I have not told you my personal ideology. I have only been doing what you ask me to do: to understand you.

Now I asked you what your reasoning and intelligent thought you about the creator, but you launched into myth and story of the creator! Your explanation of those myths clearly show you lack of understanding of the stories and their origin. Let me dance with you in you song of praise...

What exactly are you driving at when you discuss the obatala, kukuyi, Adam mythology? What are your inferences according to your "reasoning"? Which of the "tale by moonlight" do you subscrib to? Don't start relating your father and mother, I want you to extend it to the origin of their existence. The first creation(s) that ever live there. I want to know who created those people and what you think of them. I hope my questions are as clear as the full moon in a cloudless night?

So far, I want to focus on the topic. So keep moving!

Buda,
Do you know why I am posting after I said I won't? I read averse in Surah abasa. When a blind man asked the prophet a question. But the prophet focus on the noblemen. Then God admonished him.

I honestly see you as a blind man! Who want to know something but is busy telling the path he had come from. Narating how he had been "seeing" even in his blindness! I am not insulting you. I am drawing words from your own posts. I am believing that you didn't post when you are drunk and therefore, you know what you are posting. Faith is not about feeling. Knowledge is not about seeing. Conviction is a matter of individual strength of commitment.

Since you keep saying you don't understand, and that you are expressing your level of understanding, I have no choice that treat you that way.

Before I comment further, I found you to be nothing but an atheist. Forget your christain background, forget your yoga, you are exhibiting atheistic behavior.

Asking God to pull out your hand from your mouth is a stupid request. You remind me of similar tests.

Late Tai Sholarin once trying to demostrate the existence of God to children told the children to pray that God send down biscuits from heaven. The kids did the same and got nothing. Then he asked them to pray Tai sholarin to send them biscuits, to wish he responded by buying them biscuits! His reasoning was almost like yours. And most atheists do same.

Secondly, I shant comment on other things except those relating to the topic. So, in your replies to my questions, you made it clear you don't know who is God. You are aware your parents did something together and the conceived you. Good start!

So you are a product of biological conception. Good and true.

Now tell me, how your parents and ancestors come to be? Track the process back to the first man and tell me how the first man come to be. Who created him? From what? How? Please try and use your reason as deep as you can.

The name the creator is called doesn't matter!

So far you are talking. I think you are making yourself clearer. Not much to say.

That interpretation of ALIHAMDULILAH WAS CORRECT. I don't have to comment on it. And the "iqra" meaning "read, recite" is also correct. But I don't want the thread to deviate.

On the topic. You see, God had given you everything you need to recognize him. You shouldn't expect Him to give you extra knowledge to comprehend Him.

As for English readers as against christain readers. I was refering to English readers. I know the difference.

On surah Lahab, I was trying to draw your attention at the strangeness of quran. That surah was meant to be a curse on Abu Lahab, who eventually reaped what he sowed. But did you know that that same surah can be used to pray? If one would take it literarily, one would be mislead to think that it is meant to be a curse. But our reasoning isn't enough. We have to recognize that sometimes, certain things are beyond our understanding.

So who is the creator? Who is your creator? Is he God or Atom? What do you think of Him or Her?

When we interpret it as "read" it was for simplicity. It doesn't mean "keep it to yourself". It doesn't mean "read a book" it doesn't mean "use your reasoning"! Iqra was a command to the prophet. A spiritual stimulant that transformed him into educated one without going to school.

"Read!"
"what should I read?"
"Read!!" this time aloud and in a way that terrified the prophet. Again, he replied:
"what should I read?" , this time, shivering and very frightened.

By the third time, Gabriel hit him with his wing and said again:
"Read! In the name of your Lord the creator! The one who created man from sticky substance. Read..."

then Gabriel stop after the 4th verse and left him!

The prophet was terrified and then run home, shivering. He related what happened to his wife. But after that incidence, the revealation didn't come for awhile. He didn't start preaching immediately until he was told to do so.

Those verses, were the first verses in quran.

So, since you can reason:
why didn't that verses be the first part of quran? Why were revealations made in phase?
And who is the genius that arranged quran in the way we have it that it was a masterpiece?
Again, when you read the above report, you would wonder why it wasn't written in quran that way.

My friend, it is good to be like child. To understand Islam, you must first understand quran. Quran is a strange book. With knowledges that are beyond it writers.

Please, let me not spoil this thread. Let the topic resumed. When a thread on scripture comes up, I hope I am around to post something...

I take that replies, buda, to mean you don't want war again!

I will answer some of them. But I doing so in hurry.

I agrees that you are better off reading it in one language than reading nothing at all. I must commend you for that. But then, even those well-versed in Arabic don't know everything. I am just a rookie. I don't know much. That is why i was extremely angry that you gave me Mr know all. It is offensive.

For English readers, we can say that reading quran is not business as usual. Quran is conservative. Muslim won't allow any addition or subtraction. That is why, it is dangerous to just pick up the book and start misinterpreting.

Let me give you an example. In surah fatiah, first chapter read: ALIHAMDU LILAH ROBIL ALAMIN. To English readers, it means: PRAISE BE TO ALLAH THE LORD OF THE WORLD!

But when Arabic meanings are properly interpreted (tafsir), we find that the explanation can be misleading. "Robi" in arabic means more than the "Lord". The Lord was used, because english language has no other alternative for it. As for "ALAMIN". It didn't means "world"! It means "everything God ever created". Some comentators use "universe" as the right interpretation. I also goes with Universe.

Now, in Islam, words are clearly crafted. We are not allow to subtitute any other interpretation for quranic words. You finds, when you read quran that some verses has no meaning known to us! Eg. Baqorat opening: ALIF LAM MIN! Muslim believe such verses must not be altered. We leave them as they were. Please read your commentary when you have time. The English meaning are not relied upon when they are conflicting. We relied on Arabic.

"Iqra" literarily means "read". To English readers, it mean "read". That is exactly where you get it wrong!

If left to our fantasy, we would assume that Gabriel placed a book in front of the prophet and then asked him to Read! We know that is not so. We know the prophet was ignorant. We know there was no book. So when we interpret it as

Now prince can see I have something to offer. A real made in African phone. Invented long before the whites ever invent plastic or see paper!

Guys, the phone is real. A life-time warranty as long as you sacrifice a cow annually. And as long as the "Iya Oshorongas" are not offended. Awo ko gbo pa wo!

Now, who is talking MTN? Chuxxy?
MTN charges 49 naira per minutes; the network go off when NEPA fail; there are drop-calls; you have to beg a chic before you can get her number; anyone can hid his number from you when calling; and once your phone get lost, you have to go buy a new one! That is trash! That is a waste.

Now try Abenugongo.

No charge after purchase;
No NEPA trouble. In fact, it work even under water.
If a chic refuses to give you her number, just call her name in the middle of the night and she go hear you. You can even browse with it! You see your enemies even if they are hiding in the moon.
International call? You don't need any roaming. Just call and dem go hear you!
If it is stolen, the thief may start having headache till he return it to you!

C'mon guys, this sound absurd, yet real! Africans know they have the product, but they are using it for evil. It is time to employ our gifts for useful applications.

More subscribes please! Let MTN, GLO, VODAFONE run bankrupt for low patronage...

Epa ni sawo epa,
Iran okada kii ni conductor,

Then spat on the phone three times and connect to your target.

If it doesn't work, ban prince from NBF!

When we argue and quarel on the forum, it would end on the forum. I won't want to take it beyond that. That is why I didn't mention it to you on phone. It end here, as long as it is just discusion topic. Okay beibee?

@buda,
try read surah Lahab or surah fil. Read it and read the commentaries as many times as you can then tell me whether such verse can be use for prayer. Please do. Use your mind, your reason test it efficiency.

That is a test of whether your reasoning can be relied upon.

By the way, quran told us that those who put their intellectuals reasoning above wisdom of God are like: A MAN WHO KINDLED A FIRE; WHEN IT LIGHTED ALL AROUND HIM, ALLAH TOOK AWAY THEIR LIGHT AND THEN LEFT THEM IN UTTER DARKNESS. SO THEY COULD NOT SEE. Q2: 17. Meditate on it!

By the way, the reason I took you up on quran was your statement that it is full of errors. You said it alongside the bible. So, I challenge you to do research on the supposed errors and bring it out. In fact, quran itself had asked you to do the same. But if you couldn't find errors, you have to subjugate your reason to the wisdom of quran. Anything else means you are not living the parable of the child you so much cherished.

My defend of certain things from bible was based on the fact that those things are repeated in quran.

FYI,
The prophet of Islam was stark illiterate. Could not read or write, and never go abroad to learn. He was choosen at a time when philosophers, priests are ruling. His choice was essentially to prove that intellectual reasoning alone was and is not the basic to understand divine ordinance. The same happened to jesus, john etc. Those people didn't attend institutions available in their era.

Today, quran is being subject to close scrutiny and verified even by it critics.

I am sorry, I deviated. Don't worry, when I am free, I would open a thread for it. But for now, you need to start practicing the parable of child.
