Title: PRAYER & FASTING
Post by: IslandGirl on July 02, 2008, 07:13:22 AM
Two questions:

1. Do you submit to prayer and fasting?

2. What have you learned about yourself or what you were seeking?

My latest fast ended this evening (Tuesday) was supposed to last until Thursday but the Oreo cookies called to me LOL!  But what I learned about myself this time was that I still was allowing the opinions of my ex-husband control me and effect me.  When it came up I was like, "What??? Where did that come from?"  So now that I know it was there hiding in me I can address it and no longer let it control me.

Fasting is a great act. I have not been fasting lately, but when I do, I experiences my "other self".

Indeed prayers said while fasting are more effective.

But it does not just work, you know?

Many are those who pray but would get nothing except exhausion. Many are those who fast but would get not except hunger...(prophet muhamed .p.)

One study has been recently reported in newspapers and magazines, as well as in one of Dr. Dossey's books. Cardiologist Randolph Byrd, a practicing Christain, conducted the experiment.

Half of 393 cardia patients were prayed for by various religious groups for ten months. The people praying knew only the name of the patient, and neither doctors nor patients knew which patients were being prayed for. No record were kept on how the prayers were conducted.

Results showed the prayed-for patients were:
1. Five times less likely to require antibiotics
2. 3 times less likely to develop pulmonary edema.
3. None required endotracheal intubation, while 12 in the not-prayed for group did.
4. Fewer died.
