UNICEF Nigeria seeks the services of experienced drivers, who will provide transportation assistance to 6 consultants assigned to Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States as well as to staff members and other authorized official travelers.

THE DRIVERS WILL PERFORM THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS
1.    Responsible for safely driving UNICEF vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers including VIPs. Transport assignments for both intra-city and inter-city may also include collection and delivery of official mails, documents and other items.
2.    Ensure that all safety regulations, security operating procedures and standard HF and VHF communications procedures are followed. Ensures that all mandated security related equipment is present and operational in the vehicle at all times. Ensure that all required documentations present in the vehicle at all times. Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident or other incident involving the vehicle and or its passengers.
3.    Maintain daily checklist on day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle and review with the Administrative/HR Assistant so that the office could take preventive action in respect of minor/major repairs needed.
4.    Ensure clean and tidy vehicle exterior and interior, including the engine, at all times and follow approved maintenance schedule.
5.    Maintain vehicle log book to record both official and personal usage kilometers (KM), fuel consumption, oil change (this portion relates to no. 3 above under daily checklist), and ensure that the user signs the log book.
6.    Meets official personnel at the airport and performs protocol functions, as required. Provides protocol services for UN personnel and visitors at the airport and hotels as may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
•    Primary education certificate, secondary school certificate or its equivalent an asset. Professional driver’s license; certificate in vehicle maintenance an asset. Experience in use of HF and VHF communications equipment an asset.
•    Minimum five years’ work experience as a professional driver; safe driving record, and two years experience in minor vehicle repairs.
•    Good knowledge of English language (written and spoken). Working knowledge of the local language of the duty station is desirable.
•    Knowledge of Nigeria roads, vehicle repair and ability to read road maps.
•    Knowledge of protocol activities, chauffeur courtesies.
•    Basic knowledge of computer operation an asset.
•    Basic skills in first aid.
•    Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment is desirable.
•    Interpersonal skills, good judgment, discretion, initiative, and commitment to UNICEF’s mission and professional values.
