?LET?S RESCUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FROM DECAY?
« on: September 05, 2008, 02:36:01 PM »
The President of Rescue Educational Foundation, Pastor Seyi Oladimeji, has called on all stakeholders in the education sector to come to the rescue of neglected public schools.

Oladimeji, who stated this during the presentation of a block of classrooms renovated by his agency at Agindingbi Primary School , Ikeja, said the challenge faced by the sector was not one that government could face alone anymore.

He said, ?The rot in the education sector is partly due to years of neglect by all stakeholders. Our school environments are no longer what they used to be. Pupils are losing interest in academic pursuit; the teachers? morale is dampened by poor compensation plans and unavailability of facilities to work with.

?The cost of education is increasing with the increase in population. This challenge in the education sector is not something the government can shoulder alone any longer. This is because education is just one of the sectors in the budgetary allocation. The recent public-private collaboration on public schools launched by Lagos State is a welcome development.?

Oladimeji said REF was established as a vehicle through which public-spirited individuals and corporate bodies could contribute to the preservation of public schools and the development of the country.
