38 CHILDREN TO BENEFIT FROM CADI SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE
« on: September 05, 2008, 02:26:18 PM »
The Executive Director of Community Art Development Initiative, Ms.Njideka Eke, on Thursday said the organisation would continue to give scholarships to vulnerable children in the society.

Eke said this was why the organisation had embarked on a program called ?GIVING BACK? for the Orphaned and Vulnerable Children in Ijora Community

She said, ? This project is aimed at giving a helping hand to the different care givers that are striving in their little ways, to raise funds to send or sustain their children in schools. A total of 38 children will benefit from this event.

?Many Nigerian communities live in abject poverty. They have very little to eat, and not enough for their household, which results to absence from school. Currently, very few Nigerians have access to basic care, and support or treatment of any ailment.?

She said in response to this, CADI had initiated a holistic program on prevention, care and advocacy, training and workshops for individuals, families, and communities.

?The criteria for selecting these children are single or double orphans, abandoned children, children in child headed homes, street children, children infected with HIV, child beggars, separated children, children living with terminally ill parents, children living with old grandparents, girls who get married before maturity, child domestic workers, children in exploitative labour, child sex workers, children with disabilities, trafficked children. These children must be less than 18 years of age.?

She said the decision to help the Ijora community was an out come of the organisation?s needs assessment.

?The women wanted a form of loan scheme, which will help increase their capital base for more profit margins. These they say will enable them buy school bags, shoes and sandals. We therefore figured out that this is the right time to buy school items, as prices will go up around the resumption date,? she said.
