ICPC MOVES TO CURB CHEATING IN SCHOOLS
« on: August 30, 2008, 03:05:38 PM »

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is to review the examination practices in the nation’s tertiary institutions as a way of restoring the past glory of the educational sector.

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola (rtd.) gave the hint at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State on Thursday at the unveiling of a Resource Centre named after him at the Faculty of Law of the university. In a statement made available to our correspondent and signed by the Media Consultant and Head of Publicity of the commission, Mr. Folu Olamiti, the ICPC boss was quoted as telling the gathering at the Oduduwa Hall of the university that the agency believed in the transformation of the society as one of the easiest ways of confronting the menace of corruption in the society.

Ayoola said, “We believe that we must transform the culture. The culture of institutions must change, that is why we are embarking on the system review of examination practices in our universities and tertiary institutions. The time has come for the qualifications that our students receive in our universities to become credible again. We are working on a System Review of Examination Practices in collaboration with the university authority.

“We are going to insist that a student knows why he has not done what he should have done in our universities. Their must be openness in our examination practices. That is the only way credibility can be restored to our educational system.”
