Fake soldier

Two men, Osaeye Benjamin and Emmanuel Idoko, have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command over alleged impersonation. Benjamin impersonated a soldier, while Idoko was nabbed for parading himself as a policeman.

The two suspects were apprehended by policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS). Idoko was alleged to have been using the uniform of his late brother who was a Police Constable, that served in Kaduna State Command before his death to commit crime. The suspect did not stop at wearing his late brother?s uniform, he also altered his identity card to reflect his name.

Idoko?s problem started when the motorcyclist carrying him was flagged down by some policemen on duty, on the Bodija/University of Ibadan Road. He was said to have brandished his fake identity card. Not convinced, the detectives drilled him until he opened up, confessing not to be a policeman, adding that he was only taking advantage of the death of brother-policeman.

On his part, Benjamin, 32, walked into trouble. He was alleged to have put on the army uniform and went to SARS office to effect the release of a suspect and was promptly arrested. The suspect, who later spoke to Daily Sun claimed he was a graduate from te Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State.

According to him, it had been his desire to join the Nigerian army but was frustrated, after he made several efforts to be enlisted but to avail. ?After that, I decided to get army uniform,? he said. Benjamin claimed it was one of his friends, a soldier, serving in Jos, Plateau State, who gave him the uniform. He gave his name as Wasiu. According to him, it was given to him, after he parted with the sum of N5,000. Police alleged that the suspect had used the uniform to dupe many people.

Also recovered from his house were stamps and identity cards of different companies, among others.
The officer in-charge of SARS, Mr. Bayeh Ayuba said the suspect had earlier been arrested at Gbagi market in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly swindling a victim the sum of N30,000. The Oyo State police Command Public Relations Officer, Miss Bisi Okwuobi, said the suspects would be prosecuted after investigation.
