Group advocates Buhari/Utomi presidential ticket in 2011
From PETRUS OBI, Enugu
Monday, May 10, 2010

Buhari

A socio-political group known as Peoples Democratic Movement of Nigeria, PDMN has advocated a Buhari/Pat Utomi joint ticket under a mega coalition of opposition and regional parties to enthrone a credible and people-oriented leadership in 2011.

A press statement issued in Enugu and signed by the Publicity Secretary, Osayimwen Oregbe, and spokesman, Animanjor David, noted that the decision to root for Buhari/Utomi ticket was sequel to a public opinion survey which gave overwhelming acceptance and support to the proposed ticket at the grassroots.

?Strategically, the overwhelming support and endorsement of the proposed ticket cut across the ethnic, religious, geopolitical, and even social divides of the country; suggesting a wider appeal and acceptance the proposed ticket enjoys.?
The group noted that the proposed ticket would provide a unifying and rallying platform and opportunity for the deprived Nigerian masses that had suffered untold hardship occasioned by misrule of the few cabals in the country to assert their collective will and effect a progressive change in the leadership of the country.

They pointed out that both the former Head of State Gen. Buhari and Pat Utomi had similar political and socio-economic ideologies ?that are known to be strongly pro-people.
?The duo is indeed patriots and is considered more than competent enough to take our fatherland back to the path of glory and greatness; the duo has been known to be on the forefront of the struggle for a better Nigeria.?

The statement further observed that of all the presidential hopefuls, especially from the North, that Buhari stands out as the most sincere and trusted with most grassroots appeal to bring the needed change in the country.
?Buhari may not have been a religious bigot as claimed by his critics but rather a good practicing Muslim who abhors corruption, lawlessness and social injustices in all its ramifications; moreover, he has not been linked with any official attempt to Islamise Nigeria.?

?Buhari?s regime, despite its alleged high handedness and intolerant of free press, the nation under him did not witness such things as state sponsored and political killing of journalists.
?Besides, Buhari, as a democrat, is in the vanguard of those canvassing for inclusion of freedom of information bill as part of the constitution.?
