Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde.

JAMB, varsities fix 170 cut-off mark for 2008 admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Tuesday said that it had reached an agreement with the various universities to fix 170 points as the cut-off mark for entry into universities from the Universities Matriculation Examinations.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof ?Dibu Ojerinde, said this during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja.

He added that out of the results withheld, about 16,000 of the results had been released.

But the JAMB registrar added that 6,000 of the results could not be released for various reasons bothering on un-scanable scripts by the computers.

He said JAMB and the universities met during the 10th Joint Consultative Meeting of the Policy Committee on Admissions to Degree-Awarding Institutions and arrived at the figure.

According to him, the reason to fix the mark at 170 was based on the performance of candidates during the examinations, which was slightly better than that of 2007.

Ojerinde, however, expressed fear that some states might not be able to fill their quotas because of the limited number of candidates that sat for the examination in those states.
