It will reduce poverty, crime, says Osun govt
About 10,700 households are to benefit from the first phase of the Federal Government’s National Cash Transfer (NCT) programme in Kwara State, an official has said.
The Head, Conditional Cash Transfer Unit, Kwara State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Aminah Yahya-Bagudu, disclosed this yesterday in Ilorin in an interview with newsmen.
Yahya-Bagudu said 12 local councils were participating in the first phase of the programme while the remaining four councils were being considered in the second phase.
She said the scheme was part of the mechanism designed by the Federal Government to tackle poverty in the country, adding that the beneficiaries had started receiving the payment of N5,000 monthly from the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, the Osun State government has commended the programme, saying it will reduce poverty, crime and other social vices in the country.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Semiu Okanlawon in Osogbo yesterday.
It said the Federal Government’s gesture and Osun government’s monthly payment of N10,000 to vulnerable elderly persons in the state would reduce hunger among the citizenry.
