Two suspects have been arrested in Abeokuta by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command, for allegedly attacking residents of Soretire Street, in the Oluwo area, and dispossessing them of their valuables.
The suspects are Victor Omenzu and Dare Bayo.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Kareem Olanrewaju, said about 15 hoodlums invaded 9, Soretire Street, Oluwo, around 5.30am on Saturday.
He explained that the hoodlums attacked the residents with machetes, knives, broken bottles, and other weapons.
He said the hoodlums entered rooms in the building one after another, beat up the occupants and inflicted injuries on them before dispossessing them of their belongings.
Olanrewaju said men of the NSCDC, who were on guard duties at a nearby residence, were alerted and responded to the distress calls by victims.
He said, “The hoodlums, on sighting our men, threw pebbles and threatened to kill their victims if further rescue advances were made.
“Our men, however, ignored their threat, countered their attack, and forced their way into the house.
“While attempting to escape, two of the hoodlums were arrested, while others managed to escape.
“One of the victims, who identified himself simply as Mohammed, said his laptop was among the items stolen by the hoodlums.”
Olanrewaju said other victims were still trying to identify items missing in their rooms.
He added that the hoodlums were mobilised from different areas by one of the suspects, Victor Omenzu, who alleged that he was defrauded and was at the area with his gang to avenge the alleged fraud.
“It is improper to correct a wrong with another wrong. The NSCDC will ensure the fleeing members of the gang are arrested. Exhibits recovered from the suspects include a laptop, knives and charms,” he added.
