Nigerian participants express opinions at OTC 2013

The Offshore Technology Conference, 2013 held at the Reliant Centre, Houston, Texas, United States of America, no doubt drew a wide range of participants from around the world.

Nigerian companies in the oil and gas and allied sectors were not left out and used the opportunity to express their opinions about the conference:

Kabir Gbemisola, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Fatgbems Group Of Companies, said he came to OTC, to see innovations in the oil and gas industry, as well as get partnerships for his subsidiary, an oil servicing company, Fatgbems Petroleum. He also said he came for the conference to network and make new business friends so as to grow his business. ?Most of the people you meet here are not people you see everyday.

OTC is all about connection. Fatgbems has a tank farm and petrol stations. I am here to see new equipment and how to expand my tank farm business? he said. Gbemisola also said that this year?s OTC event was his first attendance, as he became the CEO few months ago, following the demise of his father.

Basil Mbanefo, CEO, Corhzec Nigeria Limited, an oil services, engineering construction and equipment supplies company stated that the OTC afforded him the opportunity to see for himself technological innovations in the oil and gas industry. ?We are into construction and equipment supplies in the industry.

As a spe...ed sector, one should be a--- of the technology that drives the industry, so as to gain the confidence of the oil companies that give us jobs?, he said. He also said he was impressed with the equipment he saw at the conference, which he hoped to acquire in no distant time to boost his business.

Emelia Orubele, President/CEO of American-Nigeria International Chamber of Commerce, said she has been attending the conference for some years now. ?I have been attending the conference for quite some time. OTC is a veritable platform to organise meetings between Nigerians and the United States of America.

People make enquiries about how to invest in Nigeria. At OTC, some of these people come face to face with Nigerians and have first hand knowledge about the country.? She added that after the conference, she would organise a delegation of businessmen to visit Nigeria and consolidate on the gains of the OTC.

Onyekachi Ukomadu, Chief Operating Officer, COO, of CityFlex, a courier company said he was at the OTC to see the companies CityFlex can do business with as regards logistics. ?Oil and gas companies move their equipment and materials from one point to the other. CityFlex is in any a position to provide such logistics to those companies satisfactorily?, he said. He also said that the conference has enabled him to make a lot of contacts that would be useful to his company

Apart from the participants, those who provided ancilliary services wished the conference never ended. Alex Abebe, an Ethiopian tav driver of the Yellow Cab Houston Company told Vanguard that since the conference started, business has been booming. ?I wish the conference would not end.

For more than one week now, business has been good because of the visitors. When you people go business will be dull?, he said. According to him, OTC period has been one of best periods for his company, because thousands of people come into Houston within this period and would like to visit places of interest in the city.
