Anyway . . . I dont just understand why we dont grow in Africa. . I dont just know

@aminah My true bitterness is at the consistent trampling underfoot of the hopes of such persons of quiet dignity by the stampede of the greedy in pursuit of the useless but thanks for the reminder to believe.

mayoz, may I tell you here that personally I do have much huger issues with those that have allowed themselfes to be swallowed by shallowness. youth of today rarely asked questions, rarely tries to look behind the fake truths been offered to them, hardly even having anything close to enthusiasm to engage in changes or in seeking deeper knowledge, denying the roots that would make them realize who they really are.

mayoz, bitterness doesn,t solve a thing...get up and do something .you cannot change the world but you can do your part .

mayoz_here: the undertone of your feelings
is very strong; it smacks of a deeply concerned
soul - aggrieved and embittered

you're not alone.

if you live outside this country and you feel strongly
so; you may want to imagine how honest-minded folks
here really feel and cry!

it's like a cycle: at a point folks think nigeria's huge joke
at some point, they see it as a heritage going into extinction

a writer once said, if there's a place a sane man has got
to doubt his sanity, it's got to be nigeria!

how true that is...

beyond demonising nigerians and africans
you must look beyond what you see and see
beyond what you look...

it's more than rhetorics and sheer bitterness
there's something much more primal about the ways
things go on on the continent...and we each have our
destinies in our hands

no one has got the moral right to judge how folks
make posts on nbf...everyone is on nbf for various reasons
some are here to unwind...and forget their sorrows

some are here to just have fun; we're all coming from somewhere
and we'll never forget that; beibee's been around for at least three
decades in nigeria...and neither have become a part of the rot nor
have i given up on nigeria, africa -in fact, the world!

beibee believes beibee is eminently human...
no man, no affliction, no insult, can make beibee believe otherwise

africans are humans. nigerians are humans. you're human. beibee is human.

always remember this; never forget:

lie is a sprinter...truth is a marathoner

...one day, our deliverance!

I admit to being bitter but deny being embittered,  aggreived but far from greiving. I live in lagos, work nigeria wide in development communications in other words i humbly practice what i preach ... and i preach the futi I do worry abt the abscence of '...moral right ...' did u catch 'Sometimes in April'? It vnderscores how supposed freedom of speech a rwandan radio dj egged on interramhawe murderers. So i will appropriate moral right' to stand against the celebration of gmorance that facilitates the destruction of our future. Demonising the demonic is a necessity, genocide by machete, robbery as governance, kids finding it easier to access an AK than a textbook. Eitter? I hope that i choke on the platitudes that make such things anything less than bitter to me ...  and you

one thing that is to say is that beibee is always very good with words...yet I do not believe in words but actions.I learned that through bitter experiences in life and mainly in nigeria.
I have no problem with people that have a positive outlook and are optimistic but I find it very dangerious to go around wearing pink glasses or react like a little girl whoms toy was stolen whenever someone points out critical views on nigeria.I thank God is has been a nigerian this time that raised issues...if it was me,the nonnigerian,I would have gotten scolded by beibee heavily and probably accused of bashing nigeria, the country I care so much about .

just last week two of our friends returned from nigeria warning my husband to not take me and the kids there at the moment cause security -risks are getting worse every day.my husband is troubled, even though he knows I have lived in nigeria and been going there on a regular basic since years.he is worried cause he fears for the children.everyone has some stories to tell, everyone returning is frustrated...
It is sad .

just last week two of our friends returned from nigeria warning my husband to not take me and the kids there at the moment cause security -risks are getting worse every day.___aminah

how much have you tried to verify the so-called critical issue?
how much do you think your so-called nigerian friends know?
how much do you know that your mind process can realistically
assess when your innate views are skewed?

it's easier to be critical than to be correct...always remember that

do you know what it means when bad things happen to good intention?
caring cannot be productive when it's devoid of understanding...
is your understanding and care of the country you claim to so love
shallow or deep?

on what basis is such care and understanding based?
isolated cases or filial connection?

it's unfortunate some folks will never see the larger picture!

who are these your friends feeding you with gall?
or, where exactly did they say security risk is getting worse?

can it be lagos? is it ibadan? or, can it be abuja? did they mention osun?
ekiti state or ondo state? could it be lokoja or kabba? where do these friends know in nigeria to talk about heightening security risks?

someone folks appear to be realistic...but in reality
they're more paranoid and given to a lot of dizzying stories
of misfortunes.

why?

could the security risk be in enugu? ro gombe? could it be katsina?
maybe it's ogun state? shall we say it's ilorin -kwara state?

or could these terrible tale-bearers have security facts not known
on the streets and not evident in many places?

mayoz_here: beibee wonders if you're aware of any heightening security risk in the nation called nigeria...are you?

I totally agree.

Bad things happen every where. But for some reason, between the local and International press we always get top billing.

When Timothy Mcveigh killed all those children - for whatever reason, nobody stopped visiting Naija. No, not evn after the 9/11 incident.

We do have our issues, but they have not reached the heightened level, that most would like to claim it has.

@BB  I ask myself if pink coloured glasses can do anything about the stench of lagos or if wishful thinking would resurrect the 3 corpers slaughtered alongside 400 in jos. Sure evil is one of the true universals of mankind and no one group of humans has been able to corner that particular market yet ... However do not dignify wilful stupidity by terming it universal. It is wilful stupidity that makes nigeria a dangerous destination. The chances of being run over by a bus are increased expotenially when driving against traffic is standard.   Are there security concerns in nigeria?? Does anyone dare say no? Should they scare  Aminah and family away, I believe not.

Well,

STENCH IN LAGOS
If you and I and our loved ones, took out time to locate the nearest trash can (when we need to dispose of our rubbish) - even if it means storing it until it can be disposed of in a more presentable manner.

Every sanitation day, the tendency is to clean out your drainages/rubbish unto the main road. Isn't there a better way???.

I wonder, if Amina lived in Lagos, how would she dispose of her rubbish.

Lagos is 'stenchy' because we, the occupants of Lagos expect it to clean itself up.

Seriously, about stench??? It's either decomposing rubbish or, people who needed to go to the bath room. What stops you setting up some Sanitary-support service?

The 3 corpers that passed on:- it doesn't happen every day. They were not killed because they were corpers.

In Mumbai, at least 12 tourists - children inclusive were gunned down for just being there. Would that stop you from visiting Mumbai?

If you were in New york on September 11th, you would also marvel that so many could die so quickly.

Have we forgotten the gas attacks at the Tokyo Substation...

About '...wilful stupidity...that remains a relative term.

If Amina's in any of the 1st world countries, she's also exposed to racist attacks, credit card debt and mortgage payments that could last another 25 years.

Me I say, the attraction of abroad will never rival the beauty of 'HOME'.

Those places we look at with such fervour were built by their own people. The people were careful to properly dispose of their rubbish, take a clear stand on security issues (an ongoing project) etc.

Every day, a rational person makes an effort to grrom himself. If that rational person wants to operate in a clean/responsible environment, he'll have to do what is required to enjoy same.

Thank God for Naija...hope is not lost.
