Management of Dufil Prima Foods Plc is set to inaugurate an Indomie Independence Day Award for Heroes of Nigeria to celebrate youngsters who have shown act of bravery.

The firm’s Head of Marketing, Mr. Pawan Sharma who stated this in Lagos on Thursday said a monetary offer of over N2.5million has been placed for the competition with the overall winner expected to receive N1million scholarship.

The second and third place winners, he said, will take home N750,000 and N500,000 respectively.

Mr. Sharma who said the competition was for children aged between five and 15 years, added that it was to encourage children who had made notable sacrifices that impacted on humanity.

“The award is for children who have performed selfless act of heroism (bravery) at great personal risk to save the life or property of someone else. It will also recognise children who have despite having limitation was performed far beyond the ordinary and pushed the limits of courage and performance to a new level. It will recognise the valiant efforts against social evils like drug abuse, child labour, illiteracy, environmental pollution,” he said.

Already, November 26, 2008 has been fixed for the recognition of the maiden winners in Abuja.

On how the winners were selected, Mr. Sharma stated that an independent research organisation was used to identify true stories, events, persons and places from Nigerian children who had accomplished some of these feats.
