RUN: Adeboye releases N210m for scholarship, infrastructural development

The visitor to the Redeemer’s University, Redemption City, Ogun State, Dr. Enoch Adeboye, has released N210m to develop infrastructure in the institution as well as sponsorship of indigent students.

Adeboye, who is also the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, the proprietors of RUN, made the donation at the Third Annual Award and Recognition Dinner of the university on Saturday.

In a short speech at the event, Adeboye said that N200m should be set aside for the development of infrastructure at the permanent site of the institution.

Though the visitor had intended to release N200m for infrastructural development alone, he changed his mind when the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, announced to the consternation of the guests at the award ceremony that about 180 students had withdrawn from RUN due to inability to pay fees.

Adeboye, who was visibly surprised, added another N10m, which he said, should be injected into a scholarship endowment fund for brilliant but indigent students.

He said that no amount of sacrifice was too much to make to prevent the stalling of the realisation of dreams of brilliant but poor students.

Adeboye also called on the guests at the event and members of the organised private sector to support the noble course by donating to the endowment fund.

He expressed the hope that the university’s main campus would be ready on, or before the expiration of the second term of the current vice-chancellor.

He called on the students’ award winners to sustain their current academic form.

Earlier, in his opening address, Tomori had announced the Vice-Chancellor’s special award of “UNSONG HERO” to Miss Ololade Olawale for her selfless service to the university right from inception.

According to him, the plaque of the award would be kept by the winner for 12 months after which it would be transferred to the next winner.
