The House of Representatives’ Committee on Education has described the leakage of examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council and the National Examination Council as worrisome to the Federal Government.

The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Chief George Jolaoye, said this in Ogbaagba community on Saturday during this year’s Ogbaagba Day celebration and launching of N250m development fund for the town.

Jolaoye, who spoke with journalists, expressed concern at the rate of examination malpractices in the country, saying the phenomenon posed a challenge to education.

The lawmaker, whose committee was inaugurated by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, last week, said the committee would tackle the problem.

He also blamed the drop in polytechnic enrolment to the perceived superiority of university education.

Jolaoye said the government would soon initiate programmes that would encourage polytechnic education.

According to the representative of Iwo-Ayedire-Olaoluwa federal constituency, polytechnic education remains the fulcrum on which technological advancement of the country rests.

The Osun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Olusola Obada, who represented Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola at the event, said the government had raised the quality of education in the state by building modern schools and equipping libraries and laboratories in public schools.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Akinade Akinbade, who hails from Ogbaagba, said investment in youths by the state government had yielded dividends.

Jolaoye denied that appointments of committee members by the Speaker had polarised the legislature, saying that the composition reflected federal character and fairness.
