Ogun, HFP to construct 300 housing units in Isheri
By Ademola Oni,

Renowned Israeli firm, HFP Engineering, is to begin the construction of the second phase of its Victoria Garden City within the River View Estate, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Isheri, Ogun State.

Briefing newsmen after the state Executive Council Meeting in Abeokuta on Thursday, the Commissioner for Housing, Dr. Kunle Salako, said eight hectares of land had been allocated by the state government for the construction of the first 300 housing units.

Salako added that the government had agreed to provide necessary infrastructure in the area in partnership with other stakeholders.

The commissioner explained that HFP Engineering would provide the necessary site and services and embark on the construction of the high-brow estate, fashioned after the VGC in Lekki, Lagos, immediately.

He explained that the cost of units in the estate, expected to be equipped with modern facilities, would be added to the value of the land in the area, adding that the firm was equally addressing flooding associated with the area.

“HFP is also offering a unique solution to the problem of flooding in the area as the firm will not just deliver the houses but find a unique way of tackling the incessant flood in the area,” he said.

Salako explained that an underpass would also be constructed to facilitate hitch-free access to the estate and other adjoining communities in the area.

The Director-General, Ogun State Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Gbenga Ogunnoiki, added that the creation of a unique estate like VGC at the River View would significantly increase the state’s internally generated revenue and boost the creation of employment opportunities in the area.

Ogunnoiki explained that the creation of an underpass, connecting motorists from the north end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway into River View Estate would reduce traffic congestion on the highway and enhance the marketability of the area.

Salako added that a committee had been constituted to work out ways of relocating the burgeoning cattle market by the Isheri River to create a befitting underpass under the Isheri Bridge.

He did not say when the relocation would be done and where the cattle sellers would be relocated to, saying the committee would sort out the “knotty issues” relating to the exercise.

Salako added that the plan to establish the estate underscored the importance the state government attached to the creation of an environment, which would be able to attract the desired investors to the state.

The commissioner said, “Don’t forget that before 2003, there was an haphazard development along that axis and what we are trying to do is to make Ogun an investment destination of choice; provide value for land; and generate more revenue. We are also planning to develop a mini-town around the Sagamu axis.”
