Post by: olanajim on February 17, 2008, 12:50:44 AM
There are thousands of tourist sites world-wide. At a time in our lives, we long to visit one of such sites to unwind or to have fun.

Let dedicate this site to Tourist sites, and other recreational facilities around us.

Have you heard of any? Have you been there? What is your experience like? Would you like to be at one? Do you want to explore. . .? Let this thread be devoted to sharing of info on that.

Thanks.

I hope to go to tibet some day for about two or three months and walk through the mountains.then I want to go for hajj to mekkah.also i always wanted to travel along the westcoast of Africa with a jeep .
lastly I want to go to India and stick my leggs into the ganges river and travel round the country.well..and making a snowman in Alaska wouldn,t be bad either... ;D
miami beach is not the best beach in the world to me....I love quiet beaches much more.

@aminah,
how could you go to all these places just like that? Won't it affect your work?

You have mentioned places I am sorry to say, I don't know. Maybe, we can share info here.

That ganga river in indian. I hope it is not the place where dead people ashes are poured?

You also mentioned traveling through west africa in a jeep. Is that a fantasy?

It's a good experience, actually you don't need a jeep, because most of the road are tared.

There's no desert in west africa. Only when you're moving to north africa.

yes- the ganges or ganga is the sacred river where the ashes are poored in...that,s why I wouldn,t take a whole bath as others do but simply put my feet inside.I just want to experience India with it,s culture and traditions.why should that affect my work.I have right to go on holiday.if i want to stay longer than the 6 weeks paid holiday then i can take unpayed leave. It,s possible.i have done it many times when i went to nigeria and wanted to stay 4 or 5 months in a row.would be sad to lose them.
Tibet is also very intersting.I imagine it a great experience to be in the majestic mountains and meditate and visit the temples.

oh PRINCE.....why didn,t I know you earlier..... :'(...I would have followed you on your trip along the westcoast of africa.I know that the roads aren,t bad down the coast line but at times I would want to explore into the different countries and there roads aren,t always good.
when I was younger I always wanted to collect old tales told from mouth to mouth and translate them into english and german...so they wouldn,t die.there are still many tales that are trasported from person to person without been written down. someone told me that when an old man dies in africa it is as if a whole libary burns to ashes.the stories are gone forever.I have listened to so may tales in three african countries already.they are often full of wisdom.

What is the myth surrounding ganga that attract tourists?
What of Tibet? I have heard the name but it sound spiritual.

Taking an extended holiday from work here attracts automatic sack. Most Nigerians don't go on holiday!

the ganga river is meaningful in hinduism.it,s considered the godess ganga in the shape of water.hinus believe that it has a purifying effect.many pilgrims are going to bath in the ganga ,pray and cleanse themself spiritually.they also take water home in bottles (almost like muslims do with the zam zam water in saudi).
the river is very dirty today but still hasn,t lost it,s meaning.
one can see interesting activities there and learn about other cultures and religions.it,s somehow also a spiritual experience.

tibet is the country where the Dalai Lama(I am sure you have heared of him...) comes from and had to leave because china has overtaken reign there long ago which is looked at critical in many parts of the world.the chinese are oppressing the tibetians and many had to go to India to hide there.tibetians can not pratice their traditions and religions in tibet as the like.nevertheless, tibet has a wonderful nature and architecture.a lot of sadis and pilgrims go into the mountains to medidate .

in my country people are paid when they are sick and also for a particular number of day for holidays.also when you are pregnant, there are certain laws to protect a women.for example is nightwork not allowed anymore and not more than 8 hours work a day.after giving birth a woman gets 67 % of her salary for 1 years when staying home with her baby.

Dalai lama? I heard the name but I don't know about the personality. You must be well versed in history and cultures.

The labour law over there is amasing. After 3 months of delivery a baby, banks would rush the mother back to work here. And the baby would be at the mercy of the Nanny and foster mums. They would even tell the woman not to have kids for a certain number of years!

Wao! That is interesting. From a nurse.

Here, when you start reading like that, they would change your name to professor. It is rare to find nurse read that much anyway. At least not beyond their profession.

Maybe, it is lack of text to read.

there are professors that only know about their field and anytime you would ask them somethingelse outside it..they would not know much to say.
here you can find people that clean the street that have more knowledge then a university graduate...I have met some.
I always say my university is life itself....and one thing I know too is that what I do doesn,t define who I am.
