Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has commended the governing council and management of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), “for keeping faith with their mandate, and deploying all their energies and competences to improve the fortunes of the school.
Ugwuanyi, who is also the visitor to the university made the commendation at the 17th convocation of the school, where he reiterated his government’s resolve to continuously place “a very high premium on the improvement of the quality and standard of education in the state, and we have continued to develop and implement policies that are designed to reposition and revitalise educational institutions at all levels.
“These include the provision of critical infrastructure, renovation of existing facilities and re-equipping our schools so as to enable them compete favourably with their contemporaries, and keep up with emerging realities and developments,” he added.
On the challenges facing the university, the governor assured that apart from ongoing interventions, the government will continue to work in concert with relevant ministries and agencies of government to, as far as available funds can permit, address these challenges adequately and satisfactorily.
He also stressed that dwindling revenue and other contemporary economic challenges, which are greatly impeding the attainment of national developmental goals were situations that public and private sectors, as well as tertiary institutions should close ranks to reverse, or bring under control.
Chancellor of the university and Wakili Adamawa, Dr. Hassan Adamu, also commended its management for the feat so far recorded, and called on the stakeholders to work assiduously towards ensuring the realisation and sustenance of the goals and aspirations of its founding fathers.
Vice chancellor of the school, Prof. Luke Okechukwu Anike, said to ensure global visibility and excellent academic rating, management took some bold steps, which include commitment to research, teaching and staff development.
He added that the sponsorship of some staff members to national and international conferences, workshops and seminars has significantly increased the level of ICT competency and productivity amongst them.
