Journalists assigned to the Lagos State governor’s office got more than they bargained for at the inauguration of the state Governor, Mr. Babarunde Fashola, SAN.

The journalists were driven to the venue of the event, Tafawa Balewa Square, in a air conditioned Coaster bus; but that was where the nice treatment stopped.

It was a mission impossible to get inside the square as all manners of security officials wanted to show the stuff they were made of.

Eventually, they got inside and as they made their way to the podium reserved for journalists, they were thoroughly harassed by no other person than the Commander of the state’s Rapid Response Squad; Mr. Hakeem Odumosu, a Chief Superintendent of Police.

Some of the security details had made way for journalists to mount the podium, but surprisingly, Odumosu came from nowhere, grabbed a lady journalist in the front and used her to push other journalists back. He did it with such force that other journalists behind hit their heads against one another.

Some of the journalists called him, “Commander don’t you know us?” He totally ignored them. An official of the State Security Service, who was there, also hook a cue from him and declared; “We don’t give a hoot about press.” Yet another official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps observed, “Anybody can be a journalist.”
