Minimum Wage: Ebonyi ACN calls for Elechi’s resignation
On September 21, 2011

ABAKALIKI-Ebonyi State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Tuesday, called on Governor Martin Elechi to resign in view of his failure to implement the new Minimum Wage Act despite the fact that the state has the lowest statistics of workers in the South- East geopolitical zone.

The party argued that Governor Elechi had no justification to dilly-dally over the implementation of the new wage after making a promise at the Abakaliki Township Stadium on May 1, before workers in the state.

The party said the governor’s resignation would give room to a more vibrant leadership that would move the state forward in every facet of human endeavour. It said the present administration had caused untold hardship to the people who voted it into power.

ACN leader in the state, Mr. Sunday Adolawam who made the call in Abakaliki blamed some of the inadequacies recorded in the state since the outcome of the 2007 general election on the age, and calibre of politicians that constituted Governor Elechi’s cabinet.

Adolawam alleged that Governor Elechi’s administration, though with good programmes, lacked the initiative and youthful drive to deliver democracy dividend to the people.

He stated that the party was not impressed by the way affairs of the state were left in the hands of incompetent and care-free politicians who are merely interested in what they would gain not minding its impact on the citizenry.
