A mini-marathon will hold on September 18 in Lagos as part of Nigeria‘s Golden Jubilee celebrations, according to Ayo Ajanaku, Head of Marketing of the Lagos State Sport Endowment Fund.
Ajanaku told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday that the race, tagged “Nigerian Independence Corporate Run”, would bring together economic stakeholders.
He said the objective of the race was to ensure that corporate chiefs were physically and mentally fit as many of them hardly had time for physical activities.
He said a “pasta party‘‘ would be held as part of the run to afford participants the opportunity to interact and ask questions about the event.
The marketing chief said the 10-km race would begin from Tafawa Balewa Square, where the Union Jack was lowered finally at midnight on the eve of Oct. 1, 1960.
From TBS, the runners will race through Lagos House, Bonny Camp and end at Eko Atlantic City.
Ajanaku said the Lagos government established the endowment fund in 1990 to raise money for sports development, provide infrastructure for sports and assist in the training of athletes.
He said sports like swimming, weightlifting and gymnastics should be encouraged because of their multi-medal nature instead of concentrating on “mass appeal sports.‘‘
