The Kwara State government will commence the implementation of the N18,000 Minimum Wage Act by August 25, the state’s Head of Service, Alhaji Dabarako Mohammed, has said.

Speaking during a media briefing to mark the commencement of the 2011 Nigeria Civil Service Week on Tuesday in Ilorin, Mohammed said the state would be spending additional N250m to implement the new wage regime.

He added that the state was paying about N900m to between 45,000 and 50,000 civil servants before the commencement of the minimum wage regime.

According to him, workers on levels one to six would enjoy full implementation of the new wage, adding that no workers would earn less than 25per cent salary increment. He called on the workers to reciprocate government’s gesture by being dedicated to their duties and loyal.

Mohammed said, “May I at this stage reconfirm to the entire civil servants of Kwara state that government will fulfill her promise of paying N18,000 minimum wage.”
