Busy are his hands for Abraham’s Blessings

Abraham at work

Whoever saw the works about two months ago will hardly believe what they have now become. Although their shapes and forms had been put in perspectives then, their ‘creator’ had not breathed life into them. But what have now radically changed the outlook and profiles of the art works are the suave colours in which they capture the visiting eyes.

Based on their current state, it is obvious that Austine Obasi is ready for the 10th edition of the Faith in Forms Art Exhibition holding in Lagos on November 19. A project that connects visual arts to Christian principles, it is founded on Obasi’s conviction that apart from satisfying aesthetic reasons, visual art can be exploited to glorify God and His wonderful works.

But because art is hardly ever complete, Obasi was, late Saturday evening, spotted still doing some ‘make up’ for the works at his base in the Textile/Sculpture Department at the College of Education, Special, Akoka, Lagos. More importantly, all he needed to do was fix the frames of the special collection he is going to display at the programme holding at Terra Kulture, Victoria Island. He will be exhibiting alongside some other artists whose works also similarly minister to the eyes, spirits and the souls. These include Bolaji Ogunwo, Dotun Alabi, Chuka Nnabuife, Victor Asowata, Onyema Okeke and Dubemi.

Obasi is very elegant in his choice of frames for the beautiful works. His ideas are also generally grand – as particularly reflected in the star work, Aqua Blaze, a maverick representation of the wonderful things God does with water – and fire.

“I make the framing so inspiring because I want the work to be acceptable in every home or office. God has created the universe to be very beautiful. So, I try to represent the mind of God using colours,” he says.

Some other works Obasi is exhibiting are Abraham’s Blessings and Seek ye First the Kingdom of God.

With the Group General Manager of the NNPC, Dr. Livi Ajuonuma, as the chairman, the programme, which will begin with a praise worship led by the Vessels of Praise of TREM Wisdom House, Akoka. It also promises to attract important personalities such as Rev. Father Chidube Ubili, Dr. Kunle Filani, Pastor Anselem Madubuko, Prof. Cliff Nwanna and entertainment industry movers that include Zack Orji, Justus Esiri and Joseph Odobeatu.
