Terje Isungset also founded the world’s first ice music festival in central Norway

Norwegian musician Terje Isungset is to bring his unusual art form, playing instruments made from ice, to London.

Isungset, also one of Europe’s leading percussionists, has been lined up to play his composition Ice Music at Somerset House.

His instruments, which include a horn and ‘ice-ophone’, are made from ice dating back 600 years from the Jostedalsbreen glacier.

The gigs are scheduled to take place from 7 January.

As well as making music, Isungset is also credited with founding the world’s first ice music festival in central Norway in 2006.

As well as ice, he has also crafted instruments from natural Norwegian products such as arctic birch, granite and slate.

Somerset House’s New Year ice rink season runs until 23 January and will also include the annual skate school with Olympic champion Jayne Torvill
