Team Nigeria to train in S/Korea, Germany
…46 athletes pick qualification tickets

National Sports Commission (NSC) has reiterated its readiness to compete favourably in the London 2012 Olympic Games by securing no fewer than three offshore training camps ahead of the Games, disclosing further that 46 athletes have picked tickets for the July glamorous Games.

The chairman of the Ministerial Advisory and Coordinating Committee for the London 2012 Games, Alhasan Yakmut, who made the disclosure, said that the camps located in Surrey, England, Busam in South Korea and Kohl in Germany, would soon take off in full swing.

Yakmut further said during a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, that while about 24 taekwondo athletes and other combatant sports would camp in the Busam camp in South Korea, Kohl in Germany will be the training camp of Nigerian boxers.

He also noted that Surrey will be the camp for other athletes, arguing that the camps were carefully selected based on the technical benefits that would accrue from the centres. Revealing that 46 athletes (24 male and 22 females) have so far secured qualification tickets for Team Nigeria for 61 different events, he added that 44 athletes have qualified for Paralympics for 31 events, listing the sports Team Nigeria secured tickets as athletics, canoeing, table tennis, wrestling, weight lifting and Taekwondo.
