Two para soccer teams will be involved a soccer championship to mark the world polio day in Abuja this weekend.

Addressing the media in the Federation’s secretariat, the President, Musbahu Lawan Didi said, “We are looking up to every Nigerian, the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and other well meaning corporate bodies to join us in this rehabilitation of polio victims through para-soccer.”

According to him, 16 states of the federation will participate in the championship in the package B of the National Stadium, Abuja from the October 24 to 28.

“Rehabilitation of polio victims is a big task for the Federation. We need more support. We have, as a people, overcome the challenges of polio and we look forward towards making celebrities out of our fate. We don’t want sympathy. We want to tap into talents of polio victims.”

Didi called on mothers and religious institutions to continue to education people to embrace vaccination.

“Polio must be fought to a standstill. We have committed ourselves to letting people know that the polio fight is for all. That is why we are celebrating the World Polio day with a championship and then, use it to create awareness to Nigerians.

“That is why Para-soccer has become so popular in the country. People enjoy the game but we have always used it as a tool to tell people to embrace the vaccination and protect every child from becoming a victim.

“The game of para-soccer was invented in Nigeria by me. We have codified the rules of the game and need to educate our coaches on the new rules. We hope we can move to the next stage and have a league. The game was the most popularly followed at the Kada National Sports festival in Kaduna. We lost out of the other two sports festivals but we shall be back.

“Para-soccer has been an effective alternative to polio victims begging for alms to survive. Fight against polio is a fight for all Nigerians and people of the world to engage in. That is why we are very appreciative of the support we got from Total Oil and the National Sports Commission (NSC). Let others join us and do the fight. Every Nigerian must know how to fight polio by personal responsibilities,” he said.
