The Chairman of the Anti-Quackery Committee of the Association, Dr. Abubakar Abdulrahman who spoke Friday at Darazo town, headquarters of Darazo local government area in the state where the anti-quackery committee fished out some quacks and recommended continuous research and study for others.

“There is dynamism in the medical profession especially doctors and it’s because of the dynamism involved that the doctors once they finish their service and get jobs elsewhere, they go anywhere to further their education,” he said.

He explained that it was as a result of the doctors’ desire for further education at various health institutions across the World that the profession usually suffers brain-drain.

The vice chairman said though the committee had no power to seal the medical institutions they adjudged to be substandard, they would reach the state ministry of health with a report that the centre was practicing medical quackery.
“The committee will write to the Ministry of Health through the director of medical services informing it about all the activities going on at the Darazo centre,” the anti-quackery chief stated.

Abdulrahman, who also heads the general out-patients department of the Federal Medical Centre, Azare stressed the need for vigilance in the medical institutions towards protecting the health of Nigerians.

He noted that there were many awkward activities going on at the said medical centre in Darazo, saying, “There are lots of cries from the people, they charge them exorbitantly and operations sometimes allegedly performed without any particular thing being seen.

“Diagnosis will be made and patient will not be informed what the diagnoses are, there are issues that have got to do with transparency, there is no transparent manner in running this clinic, the clinic does not run in line with laid down rules and regulations.”

He therefore appealed to the media to expose such practices not only in Bauchi State but the country as a whole, as the NMA will sensitize all stakeholders involve nationwide, and urged the public to call the attention of the association in whatever things went wrong in the medical circle.

“My also appeal to members of the public, any individual you see practicing medical profession, forget about the years they call him or her a doctor, once you see any practice totally against the medical ethics, norms, normal medical profession in the country and the World at large, call on the attention of NMA or any stakeholder in the profession,” he submitted.
