The U.S. says it will assist Nigeria and its African partners in nuclear technology by providing technical and scientific support through the International Atomic Energy Agency.

U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Robin Sanders, said this on Monday in Abuja at a meeting of the Forum of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies in Africa (FNRBA).

“ Nuclear technology is a vital element in power generation and essential for economic growth. The United States Government is pleased that African countries have come together to create a forum to exchange ideas and experience in building their nuclear legislative and regulatory capacity,’’ she said.

Ms. Sanders said the legislative and regulatory framework would inform safe and secured development and application of nuclear technology.
