Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, has said he would continue to defend ideals of democratic governance, which remains guiding principles of the Action Congress(AC).
Fashola said this yesterday, when he paid an unscheduled visit to the National Secretariat of the AC in Abuja.
According to him, free and qualitative education, basic healthcare and creation of opportunities for prosperity are the minimum conditions to lift the poor out of the doldrums and respond to the aspiration of the people on whose authority we exercise a mandate.
Fashola said he felt proud to be a flag-bearer of a party with great ideas and great men, adding, “one just has to acknowledge and thank all members of this great party, the officers who had held forth and one feels particularly proud to be a flag-bearer of a party with such great ideas and such great men.”
He said he was quite happy to find everyone in high spirit, and urged them to keep the spirit up.
AC National Organising Secretary, Mr. Godie Ikechi, described Fashola as a principled and reliable person.
He praised the vision of his predecessor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he said God must have used to identify an achiever like Fashola.
“Lagos is the place and you have gone forward to tell us in Nigeria that someone can touch the lives of his people and you have touched the lives of the people not only in Lagos, but in Nigeria, because Lagos is like a ‘‘United Nation,” Ikechi said.
